Inspired by the Philanthropic efforts of New York Islanders Captain Anders Lee, Community Health will partner with the 11th Grade Peers As Leaders classes to host the first-ever Syosset High School "Kancer Jam" on Wednesday, June 3rd on the football field at Syosset High School. Up to 48 teams (2 players per team) of students will compete in a Kan Jam tournament to determine which team will be crowned as Champions!
Community Health is a course centered on active involvement within the community. While the class fulfills the New York State Health requirement, it also requires students to complete at least six hours of community service per quarter. In addition, students participate in various acts of kindness and donation initiatives. The goal of this course is not only to promote healthy lifestyles, but also to encourage students to positively impact the lives of others throughout Long Island.
One of the primary goals of the 11th Grade Peers As Leaders program is to serve as a driving force for positive change within our school. Through events such as Junior Day, which promotes open conversations about emotions and mental health amongst peers, students work to foster a supportive and inclusive school climate.
Together, these two programs are proud to partner with the Jam Kancer In The Kan Foundation (www.jamkancerinthekan.com) a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial support to families affected by a "kancer" diagnosis.
